Kids' Birthday Cake Ideas

A kids party is so much fun! There are party games, piñatas and everyone’s favourite – the cake! If you’re having your party at home, in the woods or enjoying party games outdoors, this easy sponge birthday cake, will make it unforgettable.

So, let’s get baking!

To make, use 250g of each: butter, sugar and flour. Cream butter with sugar until pale and smooth. Slowly add three beaten eggs and mix well. Sieve in sugar and add flour. Fold mixture in with a wooden spoon. This makes it airy and light. Pour into two greased cake tins and bake for 20 minutes at 180 degrees. Once cooled, sandwich the sponges together with strawberry jam, chocolate spread, or lemon buttercream.

Now for the fun part…free your imagination!

  • For little princesses

All you need is homemade buttercream, a piping bag and a little practice. Colour your buttercream pink and pipe some flowers all over, covering the whole cake. Starting in the centre of where you want your flower to be, pipe a spiral until you get the size of the flower you want. Continue all around the cake. Finish off with edible jewels from your local supermarket.

  • For superheroes

Whip up a superhero-themed cake using some sugar paste. Craft your favourite hero figures to place on top of the cake.
