Story mapping outside

What does story mapping outside look like?

Everyone loves a story. One with all sorts of characters, twist and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering what’s going to happen next.

But what if you really want to bring a story to life, rather than just picturing it in your head? Well, that’s what story maps are for and it can be a really fun game to play with all your friends.

So, who's up for some fun things to draw? First, choose a story – everyone has favourites, so you might have to vote. Then grab some chalk and start drawing to map out your story on the ground (a good place to play is in the playground).

Then, if you really want to make your drawings come alive, look for sticks and other natural things like twigs, different types of flowers, leaves, rocks and stones to add to your pictures. If you have enough people who want to play, split into small groups and create your own stories.

After 10 minutes or so, visit each other’s story maps where the group who drew the story can retell it to the visitors. Let the story mapping begin!
