People and the sea

The seaside and coastal areas are usually tranquil places that have the power to make us feel happy and relaxed. That’s why it can be fun to imagine yourself at the beach and see how it can boost your mood. And when you can’t be at the beach, sensory activities are the next best thing. So, why not try it for yourself?

  1. Simply sit still for around 20 minutes at home, on the bus, or in your garden and imagine you’re sat on a sandy shore.
  2. Close your eyes and see if you can you feel the soft sand between your toes. The texture of seashells as you pick them up. Can you hear the ocean sloshing back and forth as each wave breaks on the sand? Maybe you can even smell the salty water and seaweed and feel the warmth of the sun’s rays on your skin.
  3. Then, think about how it makes you feel to imagine yourself in this quiet place.

Does it make you feel happy and calm? Next time you’ve got 10 or 20 minutes to spare, give it a go and see what else you can imagine. A special thanks to the Marine Conservation Society for this activity.
