To get the best results from your washing it is important to use your chosen detergent correctly and add the right amount:
- Using too little detergent can cause poor cleaning results, and dirt or hard water deposits may build up in your machine
- Using too much is uneconomical and increases the risks of poor rinsing of clothes and over sudsing/foaming in front loaders
Both how dirty your washing is, and the hardness of the water in your area, can determine the amount of detergent you need to use. You should also consult the detergent’s label to determine how much powder or liquid is recommended by the manufacturer to use per the load size.
Before washing any item of clothing, always remember to check the care label to determine the appropriate washing method for the material.
Dosing for Front Loaders & High Efficiency
Add the powder to the dispensing drawer, put the clothes in the washing machine, select the appropriate wash cycle and temperature, and start the machine.
Pour into the dispensing drawer, or into the dosing ball provided and put into the drum, pop the clothes in the machine, and press start. If you’re using Persil small & mighty, the dosing ball is great for pre-treating stains; find out how to use it here. Accidentally lost your dosing ball? Don’t worry, we’ll send you a new one for free – just order one here.
Place one capsule in the washing machine drum, then add the clothes, and you’re ready to start the wash cycle. Do not put capsules in the dispenser drawer. Capsules are super convenient to use as you don’t need to measure the detergent – each capsule contains a pre-measured dose. Also there’s no need to cut or tear the packet before placing in the washing machine. Check out our guide on how to use capsules for best results to find out more.
Dosing for Top Loaders
Tip: In top loaders do not put powder or liquid on top of clothes.
Add the powder either to the machine bowl or down the centre of the agitator for most standard washing machines. Then add the clothes.
Measure using the cap and then pour either into the machine bowl or down the centre of the detergent drawer for most standard washing machines. Then add the clothes.
As with front loaders, before adding the clothes to the washing machine, place one capsule in the drum. After use, remember to store the capsules container in a safe place, out of the reach of children. Read our safety instructions for capsules for more detailed information.
Dosing for Hand Washing
If you need to hand wash clothing, remember to check if you have an ‘hand wash’ cycle on your washing machine. If you do, then great – this will save your time and effort.
Just use a detergent specially designed for hand washing, like Persil Non-Bio Washing Powder, and add the detergent to the machine as you would with a normal powder or liquid detergent. When washing clothes the good old fashioned way – with your hands and a bucket or basin – add the liquid or powder to the water and make sure it is fully dissolved before adding the clothes.
